Hello
there!
Let me ask you something, do you know what organic food is?
First
I have to tell you that a healthier life has a big relation to the way we
eat and what we eat. Organic food depends on the process in which agricultural
products are grown and raised. Also there are some specific requests that
products have to maintain in order to be called organic. Organic foods are
produced by organic farming. This type of farming mostly tries to promote the
ecological balance and conserve biodiversity. Organic crops must be grown in
safe soil and have no modifications. Farmers are not allowed to use synthetic
pesticides, bioengineered genes (GMOs) or petroleum based fertilizers. Also,
there is organic meat too, it refers to livestock that must have access to the
outdoors, this means that livestock must graze on pasture for at least four
months a year, while chickens must have freedom of movement, fresh air, direct
sunlight and access to the outside thus livestock must eat only organic food.
They do not have to receive antibiotics, hormones or anything similar.
Hi, very interesting topic. Sometimes many farmers say that they produce organic food because they use algae, compost or manure to fertilize the soil, but many of them do not plant organic seeds, therefore, the final product can not be considered as organic, even when they are aware of using organic fertilizers and pesticides. Producing organic food is a huge challenge for farmers because the final production is low compared to the industrial agriculture, that is the reason why organic food is too expensive, and it is consumed only for people who are able to afford it. Sadly, it can be said that healthy food has become a privilege instead of an option.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion, the government should foster the consumption of organic food by subsidizing the production and also by promoting the trade of it.
Nice topic, I will be following your blog every week!.
Hi Vicky, regarding your question I had no idea what organic food was before I read your entry, also I learned the meaning of “graze” as well as livestock “which” is are new words for me. Organic food sounds like a ton of work and I am wondering if you consider that is worth to put that amount of effort and time to have a healthier product, I would like to read other answers as well, thanks in advance!
ResponderEliminarCool topic! I didn't know what organic food was before reading your blog, though I'm always checking free-range eggs in the supermarket, or at least I used to (in the UK). As for vegetables, I try to buy them in the market :P
